On Saturday, we met up with our good friends Aliz Khoo and Susan Chua at Aliz’s flat. Susan brought a friend, Stephanie who we hadn’t met before. Aliz works at the Spanish Embassy while Susan and Stephanie work together at RBS Coutts Bank.
Susan drove us to a local roadside restaurant to eat mee-sua. This is a black chicken and pork liver soup with thin white noodles (mee-sua) normally served as a birthday treat with eggs – it’s supposed to be all healthy and good for you. I don’t know about that but it sure tasted great!
Afterwards we went around the corner for coffee and to eat a Malay version of Kway Tutu (small thick rice flour pancake buns with brown sugar inside)
We had fun all evening, mostly at my expense!

Eating in Singapore 1
One thing we having been doing here in Singapore is eating. And we have been doing a lot of it!
We went to the Singapore Science Centre to meet Kah Wan and Evelyn Tan as well as Uncle Eng and Queenie. We always meet up with them when we are in Singapore as they are such nice people and have always taken good care of both Jo-Ann and I.
The restaurant is a Japanese buffet mixed up with some local favourites.
We ate sushi, sashimi, unagi (Unagi (ăăȘă) is the Japanese word for freshwater eels), crab, steak. We also had fresh durian puff’s, mochi filled with cream, fruit, ice cream, and, I am sure many other goodies.

Travelling to Singapore
Jo-Ann and I arrived in Singapore this morning aboard Singapore Airlines Airbus A380 (9V-SKB) Flight Number SQ321.
What a BIG aircraft!
The lower deck has suites! As Singapore Airlines say - beyond First Class! The two centre suites can be joined together to form a double bed.
We were on the Upper Desk which is mostly Business Class with a small Economy Class section to which we were banished.
Business Class seats are HUGE - wide enough to fit for a small family or a large American!
The economy class seats are wider and have more leg room but we still couldn't sleep.
We are staying with Jo-Ann's brother in Woodlands while in Singapore and have relocated Yan Qi to her brother Wei Qi's room.
Wei Qi is doing his National Service in the Singapore Army for another 14 months. Needless to say, he is not enjoying it.

Trout Fishing
As some of you may know, I do like my fly fishing.
On Good Friday, I went to Lechlade Trout Fisheries in the Cotswolds, about 50 miles from home. Jo-Ann, our friend Bon Kwa from County Durham, and my brother David and his wife, Julie, all went.
We drove through a blizzard on the way there , and, when we arrived, the wind was howling across the water at the 22 acre Bushleaze Lake and was so strong it was breaking bits off the oak trees at the lake.
The casting was difficult to say the least but we persevered and, when the wind eased off, managed well.
We had great fun and came away with twelve trout between us with an average weight of 3 1/2 pounds per fish.
Have a look at the fishery web site, and, if you fly fish for trout, it's worth paying a visit.

Wilderness Motorhomes
We are renting a motorhome from Wilderness Motorhomes in Auckland.
They are supplying us with one of their Mitsubishi based Navigator vehicles which sleeps 4 and is self-contained for a minumum of 3 days.
The Navigator has:
- 1 king & 1 double beds or 1 double & 2 singles
- Built-in bathroom with hot shower & toilet
- Air conditioning - in cab only
- All linen - including sheets, quilts, pillows, blankets, plush towels & hand towels
- Crockery, wine glasses, picnic tumblers, coffee plungers, pots, pans & storage containers
- Fridge with small freezer compartment
- Microwave
- Four burner gas cooker
- Portable gas BBQ
- Outdoor dining table and comfortable fold up chairs
- Thermostatically controlled electric & gas heater
- Complete entertainment centre including LCD screen, DVD and CD players
All we need is food, movies and music!

This is Jo-Ann. I have almost started my sabatical. I have finally resigned from my job and should be finishing in 2 weeks time. HOORAY!! Richard and I are still planning about how best we should be spending our time. There are so many places to go and people to see. I would like to go for a long walk in Wales or the Lake District. Some where away far from any city.JAT
